Whether you're a beginner looking for an introductory climb or an experienced mountaineer seeking a challenging ascent, Skyline Treks offers a range of climbing peaks and expedition routes.

Table of Contents

Types of Mountain Climbing in Nepal

  1. Trekking Peaks (Below 7,000m) – Non-Technical & Semi-Technical Climbs

    • These peaks require a climbing permit from the Nepal Mountaineering Association (NMA).
    • Suitable for beginners and trekkers looking to experience high-altitude climbing.
    • Examples:
      • Island Peak (6,189m) – Most popular for Everest Base Camp trekkers.
      • Mera Peak (6,476m) – Highest trekking peak in Nepal.
      • Lobuche East (6,119m) – A challenging trekking peak with stunning views.
      • Pisang Peak (6,091m) – Located in the Annapurna region.
      • Abi Peak (6,097m) – A less crowded peak in the Khumbu Himal range.
  2. Expedition Peaks (Above 7,000m) – Highly Technical Climbs

    • Require an expedition permit from the Department of Tourism.
    • Requires high-altitude experience, technical skills, and prior acclimatization.
    • Examples:
      • Mount Everest (8,848.86m) – The ultimate challenge for mountaineers.
      • Lhotse (8,516m) – The fourth-highest mountain in the world.
      • Manaslu (8,163m) – A great alternative to Everest, with fewer crowds.
      • Ama Dablam (6,812m) – Considered one of the most beautiful technical climbs.
      • Annapurna I (8,091m) – One of the most dangerous 8,000m peaks.

Best Seasons for Mountain Climbing in Nepal

  • Spring (March-May): Best time with stable weather, warm temperatures, and clear views.
  • Autumn (September-November): Second-best season with dry weather and excellent visibility.
  • Winter (December-February): Very cold with a high risk of snowstorms, but possible for lower peaks.
  • Monsoon (June-August): Not recommended due to heavy rainfall and avalanche risks.

Permit & Costs

  • Trekking Peaks (NMA Peaks): $600 - $900 per person.
  • Expedition Peaks (Above 7,000m): Starts from $4000, with Everest permits costing $15,000 per person.
